In today’s unpredictable global landscape—rising tariffs, supply chain delays, and growing demand for sustainable practices—local manufacturing is more than just a trend. It’s a strategic advantage.
At deSter, we’ve always believed in producing closer to our customers. That’s why our Lima, Ohio, facility is a key part of our global manufacturing network. Opened in 2018, Lima is deSter’s North American production site, serving customers across the United States. With an established base and strong capabilities, Lima is well-positioned to support the needs of both the Foodservice and Travel industries.
Backed by an AA+ rating from the BRCGS Global Food Safety audit and a passionate, quality-driven team, our Lima facility offers more than just local production—it delivers speed, reliability, and peace of mind.
We sat down with Duane Cameron, Plant Manager at Lima, to learn more about what makes this site special—and how it’s preparing for the future.
- Q: What makes deSter Lima an ideal partner for U.S.-based customers?
Duane: First and foremost—proximity. We’re based right here in the U.S., which means faster lead times, fewer disruptions, and more responsive communication. But beyond location, we have the infrastructure, certification, and team mindset in place to grow alongside our customers. Whether you’re looking for sustainable packaging solutions or a reliable supply partner, we’re ready to support you.
- Q: What does the AA+ certification mean to you and your team?
Duane: It’s a huge achievement and a reflection of the standards we hold ourselves to every day. Getting an AA+ from BRCGS doesn’t happen by chance—it requires rigorous attention to detail, consistency, and a strong culture of quality. It’s a point of pride for everyone here at the facility.
- Q: ESG is a key pillar at deSter. How does that come to life in Lima?
Duane: For us, it starts at the local level. We’re active in the community—volunteering at events, supporting local food drives, and hosting educational sessions about sustainability. It’s not just about the materials we use or the processes we optimize—it’s about building a culture where people care about their impact. That mindset carries through everything we do in the plant.
- Q: What’s next for the Lima facility?
Duane: We’re focused on continuous improvement. That includes ongoing investments in our operations and preparing to serve a broader mix of customers across different sectors. The team here is motivated, experienced, and committed to growing with our customers’ needs.
The Value of Local, the Power of Global
With manufacturing sites across Belgium, Spain, Thailand, and the United States, deSter takes a glocal approach – combining global scale with local impact – whilst adapting an ‘agnostic’ view on the proposed material solutions.
Recyclable, Reusable or Compostable, we operate all three, ensuring our customers have the right concept solution that increases their NPS whilst decreasing their scope 3.
The Lima facility embodies this philosophy: certified quality, shorter delivery timelines, reduced emissions, and a team that understands the needs of the U.S. market.
We also see Lima as a location with development potential. As part of deSter’s flexible global network, we can relocate or expand production capabilities when needed—quickly and efficiently. Whether it’s a new airline request or a growing Foodservice opportunity, we’re ready to support local production. That’s the power of global resources with a local mindset.
